PRE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED
Class fees are paid to the Calumet Art Center. Materials fees are paid directly to the instructor. If you are a member of the Calumet Art Center, you are able deduct five dollars from each of three classes you may enroll in during a one year period.
CLAY Classes

Clay Tiles with Ed Gray
Students will create single tiles and groupings of tiles. Participants will learn to carve images into clay, use underglazes for color, and finish pieces with a clear satin overglaze before the final firing.
Pre-registration and payment a must; limited student space.
Six class sessions
Class Dates: September 20, 22, 24, 27, 29 and October 1
Class Time: 6 pm - 8:30 pm

Clay Hand-Building & Slab Work with Ed Gray
Students will use slab construction to create free standing sculptures following architectural forms. Participants will use the slab roller, add an underglaze for color to the sculpture, bisque fire the piece, and add a clear satin glaze for the final glaze firing.

Class Dates: October 11, 13, 15, 18, 20 and 22

Clay Beads with Ed Gray
Create beads of various shapes and sizes in the palms of your hands, then add surface textures. Smoke firing. Students will then make two necklaces using the beads from the class, found objects and copper.

Upcoming Quilting Event
Hand-Quilting Bee with Pam Beal
Event Date: Saturday, October 9
Event Time: Noon to 4 pm
Event Fee: No fee; come, learn and have fun!
Experience Level: All persons are welcome–beginner to experienced!
Event Description: We will be hand-quilting an art quilt on an antique floor frame. The quilt components are a nice mix of the contemporary and the traditional. If you do not know how to quilt, come and learn. If you love embroidery, come and add your special stitches. This is an improvisational project with no wrong moves. Pam Beal has a long quilting history; she will be demonstrating technique, answering your questions and cheering you on! It is our hope that this quilt will be completed by the end of the year and made available for fundraising for the Calumet Art Center.
Twining Wool Rugs with Lynn Anderson
Students will create a 24×38 inch twined rug using recycled wool. Twining is an ancient form of weaving which is done on a portable loom. The rug will be completed at the last class session. You may bring your own wool and not pay the material fee if you prefer, the Calumet Art Center provides the looms on loan.

Learn the basics of sewing on a treadle machine.
For adults.

Sun Dyeing with Lynn Anderson
Students will dye two silk scarves using heliographic paints. Natural elements such as leaves, vines, and flowers will be used for the pattern for the first scarf. Resists will be cut from foam to create shapes for the second scarf.

Warping The Loom with Eve Lindsey
This class would be for a beginning weaver with a multi-harness floor loom.
Learn to wind a warp, thread the loom and weave a small table runner.

Class Time: 5:30 pm -8:30 pm

Material Fee: $5.00
Special Equipment: warping board, loom, lease stick, sley hook, raddle, metal rod on warp beam, corrugated paper or brown paper, and shuttle. Note: Equipment should be available to the student, but it is not necessary to bring these materials to the classes.

Natural Dyeing with Lynn Anderson
Students will use gathered flowers and weeds, as well as elements from the grocery store to achieve a unique silk scarf. Students will take home a “percolating” scarf.

Remember to reserve October 16, 2010 on your calendar for our SECOND ANNUAL FALL BENEFIT CONCERT at the Calumet Art Center. This will be a performance of musical favorites, featuring:

On November 12, (time to be determined), Jym Mooney & Carol Lee Hopkins bring a collection of delightful original songs and old favorites to our stage. Working in the folk tradition, they sing of family, friendship, love, and life. You may find yourself deeply moved by their thoughtful songs, and then in turn be struck sharply in your funny bone by one of their lighter numbers. Bring your friends and family for an entertaining and rewarding evening with Jym and Carol Lee.
Violin Lessons at the Calumet Art Center
Beginning this fall, the Copper Country Suzuki Association will be offering violin lessons to students ages 6 and up at the Calumet Arts Center on Thursday afternoons. No previous experience is necessary, and beginners are encouraged to enroll. Only a limited number of spaces are available so please register early.
The Copper Country Suzuki Association provides professional, affordable instruction and creates performance opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Scholarships are available. Member benefits include: Private Lessons, Group Classes, Orchestra and Chamber, Ensembles, Parent Classes, Instrument Rental, Recitals and Community performances.
